You Are Strong

A lot of movies and popular stories are based on the internal conflict in which a person asks, “Do I have what it takes?”

Think of your favorite super hero movie or your favorite novel about a heroic figure. Typically, the beginning of that person’s journey is fraught with the idea that he or she may or may not overcome their situation. Maybe they were orphaned at birth. Maybe the were born into a crime-ridden family. The heroes have to overcome a serious obstacle to grow as people and also to fulfill their purpose.

If the person overcomes, it’s a blockbuster, super hero movie. If he or she fails, it’s a tragic drama.

1 Corinthians 1:7-8.

In the real world, the difference between having what it takes and not having what it takes is Jesus. As Jesus-followers, we always have what it takes no matter what. 1 Corinthians 1:7-8 says that, “you have every spiritual gift you need as you eagerly wait for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Do you feel weak today? God has given you everything you need.

Do you feel confused today? God has given you everything you need.

Do you have an enemy? God has given you everything you need.

And, above all of that, God is faithful to finish what he starts.

You never have to believe the lie that you’re not going to make it. You’re never going to have to worry about overcoming. The spirit of God is living inside of you and He will give you all the strength that you need.

The world, on the other hand, doesn’t know what that’s like. The world will tell you to deal with your situation in a different way. It will say to buy some self-help books or take some medication. But Christians overcome in a different way because even God’s weakness is stronger than any human strength.

You are stronger than your enemy when you have Jesus. Why? Because a real Jesus follower is dangerous. Thank about it. Imagine you’re going to battle against a fierce enemy and, at exactly the time when you’re about to attack, your opponent lays down their weapon because they aren’t afraid to die.

What would you think? You’d probably think, “Well, that’s weird!” But, imagine if every Christian around the world had no fear of their own death. They had no fear of what their enemy could do to them. No persecution, no threats, and no government could stop them sharing Jesus. Imagine a world full of Christians who could care less about their enemy because they know their strength is found in God and that if they die, they’ll get to be in heaven for eternity.

That’s a dangerous person to be around. That’s a dangerous person to fight against. And the truth is that you are one of those dangerous people. If you’re following Jesus, you have the God’s power living inside of you and you should have no fear of any enemy that rises up against you.

Today, I want you to live with confidence, trusting that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you. No weapon forged against you shall prevail!

No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me," declares the LORD. (Isaiah 54:17)

Be encouraged today because God is with you.

Blessings,
Pastor Andrew
